Chiropractic Newport Beach

What we use it for

  • Joints that have stopped moving properly
  • Back and neck pain that keeps returning
  • Stiffness that has become normal
  • Working out whether we are the right people at all
An adjusting room at DeMoss Chiropractic, Newport Beach

Most people arrive having already tried the obvious things — rest, ice, a course of anti-inflammatories, a stretch someone showed them. They are not looking for a lecture. They want to know what is wrong and whether it can be fixed.

What chiropractic Newport Beach patients actually get here

A first visit is mostly conversation and examination. We ask what you were doing when it started, what makes it worse, what you have already tried, and what you need to get back to. Then we look at how you move: range of motion, posture, joint play, and the muscles that have been guarding around the problem.

If imaging will change the plan, we take it. If it will not, we do not. Chiropractic Newport Beach residents get from us is not a fixed protocol applied to everyone who walks in — the examination decides.

The adjustment itself

An adjustment is a controlled movement applied to a joint that has stopped moving the way it should. It takes seconds. Some techniques use a short, quick thrust; others use a spring-loaded instrument or a table section that drops away under the contact. Which one you get depends on the joint, your build, and what you are comfortable with.

Soft-tissue work often goes alongside it, because a joint that has been restricted for weeks has muscle tension built up around it that will pull it straight back if nothing is done about that.

How we decide what to do

Two doctors, four decades, and a habit of explaining the reasoning out loud. You should leave the first visit knowing what we found, what we are going to do about it, and roughly how long it should take. If we cannot tell you that, we have not examined you properly.

Between visits

You will usually be given two or three specific things to change — how you sit, how you sleep, one loading exercise. Not a printed sheet of thirty. The ones that matter are the ones you will actually do.

When we say no

Not everything that hurts is a chiropractic problem. Some things belong with a physician, an orthopaedist or an imaging department, and a few need to go there quickly. If that is what the examination points to, we will say so and help you get there. Sending someone away is not a lost appointment — it is the job.
