Navigating New Years Resolutions

It’s never too early to plan for success, especially when it comes to planning for New Years Resolutions.

Resolutions are oftentimes goals that we should be working toward year-round; whether it be a better diet, more exercise, or less sugar intake. So how can we successfully make positive resolutions a part of our daily lives? Here are three suggestions.

Make a dedicated resolution calendar

A good way to implement and track your New Years resolutions is by dedicating a calendar or planner to your goals. You can find affordable calendars at your local dollar store or Target. If you opt for a calendar, hang it in a high traffic area of your house and keep track of your daily progress.

Break it down

Be sure to break down your goals into achievable segments. It’s safe to say that the more vague a goal is, the less likely it’ll be reached. Rather than proclaiming that you will read more in the year 2016, read one book every two weeks. Instead of saying you want to exercise more, make Tuesday and Thursday your jogging days. If you want to pay off more debt, set aside a specified amount every month that will allow you to reach your goal by the end of the year. Remember, success takes planning.

Find an accountability partner

It’s always easier to tackle a challenge with someone by your side. Get a friend or family member involved in your resolution and celebrate successful implementation with them as the months pass. For example, you could read a book every month with a partner, then treat yourselves to a literary conversation over scones and coffee. Sign up for a half marathon with a co-worker and hold each other accountable until the day of the race.

It’s never too late to implement goals and make yourself the best you can be. Be sure attend some of our monthly workshops at DeMoss Chiropractic, your ally in healthful and happy living.

Prop 64: Understanding the Basics!

California voted yes on Prop 64 in November. So, what does this mean? Well, Prop 64 legalized marijuana and hemp for recreational use, though it has been legal for medicinal use for several years. Some citizens who were against the passage of Prop 64 were vocal about their concerns regarding who could purchase it and how it is used in the public sphere. Prop 64 took this into consideration, making it illegal for those under 21 (similar to tabacco sales). Moreover, it can’t be smoked in public and users cannot drive while high or give it to minors. Commercial pot growers will be licensed and there will be regulations on labeling, packaging, and marketing the substance.

Californians who do not possess a medical marijuana card may not be abe to legally purchase pot from dispensaries until the second part of Prop 64 goes into effect on January 1st 2018.

Some things to look out for in the coming years. What will be Prop 64’s influence on the drug cartels — will it strengthen or weaken them? Will this Prop allow prime-time television ads for marijuana? If you object to this; consider what makes it different than beer advertisements? Just some things to keep in mind.

It’s important to stay educated on relevant natural health topics. At DeMoss Chiropractic, we host health and lifestyle workshops monthly that are meant to keep you informed and healthy. Heatwave 2017: About & How to Prepare

The National Weather Service is predicting some abnormal temperatures this summer. It’s important to know about the upcoming heatwaves and how to prepare yourself and your family.

First, the details. There will be a large contrast between Inland temperatures and the coast. If you’re near or on the coast, summer temperatures will rise a few degrees some days. However, the more inland you are, the higher temperatures will get – upwards of 12 degrees.

What can you do to stay safe? Drink lots of water. Tone down on alcohol consumption on hotter days since it promotes dehydration. Limit exercise during peak heat hours – opting for early or late hours of the day. Make sure your vehicle is in good shape to precent breakdowns and pack water in your car just in case. Check the weather app on your phone before leaving for the day.

To learn more about staying safe in the sun throughout the year, be sure to RSVP for Dr. Joe’s Sun Smart workshop July 26th at 5:30pm. All Cherry will be a guest speaker and dinner will be provided. RSVP today by calling (949) 250-0600 or reserving your spot here.

SB277 Information You Should Know

  • On June 30th, California became the first state in which legislature passed a bill disallowing parents who cite religious or philosophical beliefs against vaccines from sending their children to any California public or private school after July 1st, 2016.
  • SB277 creates an education crisis: thousands and thousands of children will be displaced from their current public or private school.
  • Parents who have chosen to oppose one, some, or all of the required vaccines are equally restricted and affected.
  • Once SB277 goes into effect, unvaccinated children will be forbidden from attending classroom-based instruction (including daycare). The government is “compromising” with parents against vaccinations by allowing their children to be homeschooled.
  • If parents file a personal belief exemption (PBE) before December 31st 2016, their children can stay at their school until the final year of their grade span. The three grade spans are birth-preschool, kindergarten-6th grade, 7th grade-12th grade. So if a child is in 8th grade with a PBE on file before December 31st 2016, they are allowed to stay in school until graduation.
  • The bill applies to the following state-mandated vaccines: Diphtheria, Hib, MMR (Measles Mumps Rubella), Pertussis, Polio, Tetanus, Hep B, Varicella and “any other disease deemed appropriate by the department.” Meaning, this list can easily expand.
  • Due to SB277’s vague legal jargon, the bill could even allow a school to vaccinate without complete parental consent or knowledge. See for yourself, the bill reads: “…the governing authority of any school or other institution may permit any licensed physician or any qualified registered nurse…to administer immunizing agents to any person seeking admission to any school or institution under its jurisdiction.”
  • The final vote on SB277 in the California Assembly was eight votes away from abolishing the bill, while the final vote in the California senate was just six votes away. This is far from unanimous.
  • A SB277 Referendum is currently making its way to Sacramento. The referendum, filed by former state assemblyman Tim Donnelly, exists to abolish SB277.
  • DeMoss Chiropractic frequently holds informational vaccine workshops, be sure to check out our Workshops page or our Facebook page for more information.

4 Reasons to be Thankful for Chiropractic Care

1. It’s Natural

Chiropractic is a natural and effective form of healthcare, which promotes proper functioning of the central nervous system. Many of our patients have eliminated the need for dangerous surgery and expensive medication after receiving regular adjustments. Everyone is treated as an individual under our chiropractic care, meaning the aches and pains specific to your body are recognized and corrected.

2. It lets the body heal itself

When a patient comes in for an adjustment they experience precise forces to specific parts of their spinal segment, which ultimately correct misalignments and allow normal nerve transmissions to the rest of the body. When nerve transmissions are sending clear messages, your body can recuperate itself. Chiropractors tackle the root of your pain, which is often just nerve transmissions being blocked (these are called “subluxations”). Rather than simply treating symptoms, chiropractic care assists your body in resisting disease and regaining its potential.

3. Relief

We are confident that there is no limit to the benefits regular chiropractic care can provide. The most common relief associated with chiropractic care is back pain. However, no matter the pain or discomfort people come in experiencing, our chiropractors seek to correct underlying causes rather than masking or numbing your pain with medications.

4. It’s great for the whole family

Chiropractic care is not only for adults; our chiropractors are specifically trained to check a child’s spine for areas causing nerve damage. If any indication of trauma or damage is present, a gentle adjustment is administered with the same pressure you would use to test the ripeness of a tomato. From infants to grandparents, our families report having more energy, less dependency on medication, and improved overall health as a result of regular chiropractic care.

Experience these reasons to be thankful for chiropractic care by scheduling a consultation today at (949) 250-0600.
